The third annual Southwest Georgia Model Bridge Building Competition was held in the HPER Building of Albany State University on the morning of February 26, 2005.  Both, number of students who participated, and the number of bridges entered in the competition, far exceeded that of any of the previous years. Overall 31 students came from 4 high schools with Dougherty Comprehensive High School fielded the largest contingent of 9 teams.

This year we had a new compact category being restricted in height to 3". We had a new test fixture used for the first time which significantly reduced the initial setting up time.

This year the prize for the best written report was eliminated and hence no report was submitted.

Deerfield Windsor Academy claimed the trophy for coming first in the General Category and Early County High School took home the trophy for the first place in the Compact Category.  Early County also took the plaque for getting the highest overall structural efficiency measured by the breaking load divided by the weight of the bridge.

Pizza and soft drinks were available for everyone after the competition ended. Every one present also got a commemorative T-shirt.

Georgia Space Grant Consortium   sponsored the competition.

We hope next year we would have even better attendance than this year. The exact date of the next year's competition and any changes in the rules will be posted here around the beginning of fall semester, 2005.
