The sixth annual Southwest Georgia Regional Model Bridge Building Competition was held in the HPER Building of Albany State University on the morning of February 23, 2008. This year's contest witnessed the largest number of schools, teams and contestants participating making the event truly a regional contest. In the High School category students from 7 schools took part. In the new Middle School category 5 schools participated. In total 45 teams registered (32 high school and 13 middle school) with 109 students. Only 2 teams did not show up. Hence we had a record crowd. Previous record was established in 2006 when 43 teams with 86 students registered for the event.
Despite the large number of participating teams, no new record was established. Early County High School won the top three places in the high school category to defend their title and hence took the winner's plaque back. In the new Middle School category, Miller County Middle School took the first and third places to qualify for the winner's plaque.
As usual pizza and soft drinks were available for everyone after the competition ended. Participants, teachers, judges and student volunteers also got a commemorative T-shirt.
Georgia Space Grant Consortium sponsored the competition.
The exact date of the next year's competition and any changes in the rules will be posted here sometime in September, 2008.
